Please, mom, can we keep him? If you’re a parent, you must have heard this sentence at least once. Children tend to grow fond of animals in a matter of minutes and they immediatelly fall in love with the idea of having a pet. However, this brings a ton of responsibilities along, and children are often not aware of it.
But before you decide not to have any pet at all, there are those pets that don’t require so much time and energy and they are just as great companions as, for example, dogs. We’re talking about birds. And there are some breed that are simply better and more suitable as children’s pets.
1. Bourke’s Parrot
This small parrot comes from Australia. It is about 7 to 9 inches long and it is brown in color with a pink abdomen. They are quite energetic and like to fly around, so you will need a spatious cage and make sure he or she doesn’t fly out, especially if the child is playing around the cage.
Still, they are pretty quiet. You or the child will have to take care of its food and hygiene, making sure that the bird has enough food and water and cleaning the cage every day. It is also recommendable that the parrot be bathed once a day. This bird is pretty much low maintenance and it doesn’t require a lot of company, but it will still enjoy some interaction with the children.
